Haiti - Social : Brazil facilitates the integration of thousands of Haitians in its economy
Last year, Brazil has regulated, for humanitarian reasons, the status of 1,600 Haitians entered illegally, to enable them to live and work legally. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, the status of more than 2,000 others are currently being analyzed.

Within the last 5 days of December, a large number of Haitians have entered on the Brazilian territory, for fear of a restriction by the authorities. An unfounded rumor, denied by the Brazilian Government. Thus, 500 illegal Haitian entered the Brazilian city of Brasileia, on the border with Bolivia, in addition to the 700 in this town and and 208 new arrivals were reported to Tabatinga on the border with Peru and Colombia which are added to the 1.041 Haitians already present.

The Ministry of Justice estimates that since the earthquake that struck Haiti in January 2010, nearly 4,000 Haitians came to Brazil in search of better living conditions.

Mourao Nilson, the Secretary of Justice and Human Rights of the State of Acre, stated that from next Monday, about 40 Haitians will begin to be evacuated daily from Brasileia, following an agreement with the Government which has simplified the procedures, documents, vaccination and licensing of work.

Despite the global economic crisis, economic growth of Brazil, has enabled the country to absorb, so far, these newcomers without documents. According Mourao, most of these people will work in the State of Rondonia (North) in the construction of two large hydroelectric plants and towards other companies that lack the manpower.
