As part of the new Haitian diplomacy, the Foreign Minister, Laurent Lamothe, in an interview, expressed the Government's intentions to promote tourism in Haiti.

"...we want that our diplomats are agents for the promotion of our wealth, of our opportunities and especially the promoters of the Haitian culture. My personal experience showed me that all the world know what is wrong at home, we already know this, so, we want to put a team in place to show what is good, because if we do not do that, nobody will do it for us.

Yes the country is suffering, yes we are small, but we are a nation that is proud and Haiti has a history truly exceptional. The other day I went to the western tip of Gonâve, anywhere else I've seen beautiful beaches like this, unique beaches in the world [...]

Our role is first to think that YES Haiti is capable, we are able to meet this challenge, we are able to go and tell to the foreign countries that Haiti have not only bad things. It is not only cholera, it is not only the misery, yes we have poverty, but we are working on it, we can not remain forever in poverty.

Who should do it for us ? These are the diplomats who are in foreign countries, they must set the tone, that they give the example... [...] is not that we will withdraw the diplomacy of representation, we will keep it [...] I think we have no other choice, because in Haiti a lot of things go through the international, so it is very important that we have good Embassies who speak with foreign ministries, that explains them, our priorities and needs and especially to the private sector, the types of opportunities that there are in Haiti. We want to continue the promotion so that more people come to invest and visit Haiti [...] is our role at the chancellery, Embassies and Consulates to restore confidence, to say that we have good governance..."

The Chancellor Lamothe confirmed that the Haitian government is currently in discussions with the company that runs buses of the city of New York and Miami to display advertisements in order to sell the Haitian beaches. He also announced that at an upcoming trip to Paris, he would sign a contract for tourism advertising on French buses, to make the promotion of destinations citing as an example : the city of Jacmel.
