Haiti - Economy : Note on the monetary policy of the BRH (4th quarter 2024-2025)

In the fourth quarter of 2024-2025, the global economy remained affected by geopolitical tensions, tightening trade and migration policies, and slowing growth, which fueled inflationary pressures. In Haiti, socio-political and security instability continued to hamper economic activity, exacerbating price pressures and food insecurity.

In this context, the Central Bank of Haiti (BRH) maintained a prudent monetary policy to preserve exchange rate stability, contain price increases, and strengthen the resilience of the financial system.

Summary in figures :

• The Overall Economic Activity Indicator (ICAE-Haiti) declined by 2.4% in the first nine months of fiscal year 2024-2025;

• Insecurity: 1.4 million internally displaced persons; 5.7 million Haitians are facing acute food insecurity, including 1 million children in critical situations;

• Annual inflation: 31.9% in September 2025 (compared to 28.4% in June);

• Inflationary pressures fueled by weak domestic production and disruptions to supply chains;

• Tax revenues: up 5.7% compared to the previous quarter, public spending up 15.4%;

• Exports (October 2024 - July 2025): US$635.93 million, down 8.41% year-on-year;

• Imports: US$3,642.7 million, up 10.78%;

• Reference exchange rate: relatively stable at around 130.69 gourdes to the US dollar as of September 30, 2025.

Outlook :

• The economic trajectory will depend on the evolution of the global economy and the security situation at the national level.

• An improved business climate would be favorable to the recovery of economic activity, with positive effects on employment and food security.

• The BRH (Bank of the Republic of Haiti) will continue to base its decisions on a perspective of economic recovery, while supporting SMEs and productive sectors, particularly tourism. It is also committed to maintaining exchange rate stability and containing the rate of price increases in the economy.
