Haiti - Politic : The Government accelerates preparations for elections

During the 29th edition of the "Tuesdays of the Nation", held on December 2nd, 2025, at the Prime Minister's Office, Joseph André Gracien Jean, the Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister in charge of electoral and constitutional matters, presented the major progress made by the Government in the process of returning to constitutional order, in accordance with the Agreement of April 3rd, 2024.

The Minister emphasized Prime Minister Fils-Aimé's firm commitment to organizing credible elections, notably through the mobilization of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the adoption, by the Council of Ministers on December 1st, of the Electoral Decree, a decisive step towards the renewal of political personnel. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46330-haiti-elections-the-electoral-decree-unanimously-adopted-by-the-council-of-ministers.html

He highlighted several innovations contained in this decree, including :

• The requirement for 50% female representation in decision-making positions;

• The updating of the electoral register by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP);

• The decentralization of the tabulation center to the ten departments;

• Diaspora participation in the upcoming elections;

• The recruitment of polling station staff from among NS4 students, women's organizations, and civil society.

According to the Minister, these reforms represent significant structural advancements for the rebuilding of the nation-state and the modernization of the electoral system.

He also highlighted the capacity-building program for political parties, in which more than 100 parties are currently receiving training in several departments across the country.
