Haiti - FLASH : Sunrise Airways passenger plane hit by multiple bullets

Sunrise Airways informs the public that following the incident on November 23, 2025 ( https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46274-haiti-flash-all-sunrise-airways-flights-to-and-from-port-au-prince-suspended.html ), in which an Embraer 120 aircraft, operating for Sunrise, en route from Les Cayes, flight 033, was targeted and struck by several bullets while approaching Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the airline has suspended all flight operations to and from Port-au-Prince until further notice due to the high risk to passengers and crew.

The airline confirms that no passengers, crew members, or individuals on the ground were injured during this incident.

Three independent reports from three different sources have formally confirmed the nature and severity of the incident.

This event constitutes a serious incident according to international civil aviation safety standards, requiring the direct and immediate intervention of the competent authorities to ensure the safe resumption of operations to and from Port-au-Prince Airport.

The State's responsibility, according to international standards, is engaged in accordance with international civil aviation regulations, specifically Annex 17 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Annex 19 (Safety Management), and the Chicago Convention (Articles 44, 54, and 55).

The State has the primary responsibility to ensure : the protection of aircraft , the safety of passengers and crew , the integrity of air navigation services , and the security of airports as well as approach and departure paths.

Furthermore, under ICAO Annex 13, any serious incident, including aircraft struck by gunfire, must be formally investigated by the State.

Sunrise Airways respectfully but firmly requests the following from the competent authorities :

- The immediate and sustained implementation of security measures around the perimeter of Port-au-Prince airport and along approach and departure corridors.

- Official investigations for every incident involving projectiles, in accordance with ICAO protocols.

- Close collaboration with airlines to assess risks and implement appropriate protection strategies.

- The restoration of required safety standards to guarantee safe and compliant international civil aviation.

Sunrise Airways reiterates its commitment to Haitian communities by maintaining the country's connection with the region and the rest of the world.
