Haiti - FLASH : Possible deployment of Rwandan security forces in Haiti…

On the sidelines of the 46th Ministerial Conference of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) in Kigali, Rwanda, Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste held a bilateral meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda.

This particularly constructive meeting focused on efforts to restore security in Haiti, essential for a return to institutional stability and the creation of an environment conducive to holding free, credible, and inclusive elections.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to continue technical and political consultations to examine the modalities of a possible deployment of Rwandan security forces in support of the Haitian authorities, within a bilateral or multilateral framework, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 2793 (2025) establishing the Gang Supression Force (GSF) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45891-haiti-flash-the-security-council-has-voted-for-the-new-gang-repression-force.html

Furthermore, the question of opening a Haitian diplomatic mission in Kigali was discussed. The two sides also discussed the possibility of sending a Rwandan fact-finding mission to Port-au-Prince as soon as possible, tasked with gathering the information and data necessary to strengthen security cooperation between Haiti and Rwanda in the fight against criminal gangs and terrorists.
