Elections : US Ambassador Optimistic On Tuesday, November 18, 2026, US Ambassador to Haiti Henry Wooster expressed his optimism regarding the efforts of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the Haitian government to adopt an electoral law and an official calendar. He welcomed the commitment to publish a "clear and binding" calendar to prepare for the elections. The diplomat also reiterated the United States' support for Haitian and international forces in restoring security in Haiti. SIMPAP : Cleanup at and near the MUPANAH On the occasion of the commemoration of November 18, 1803, the historic date of the Battle of Vertières, the Port-au-Prince Municipal Fire Department (SIMPAP) conducted a cleanup operation at the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) and its surrounding area. This initiative aimed to honor the memory of national heroes and to provide these sites with a cleaner and more welcoming environment. Chancellor Jean-Baptiste Requests Assistance from the British Government On Monday, November 17, 2025, Haitian Chancellor Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, accompanied by the Haitian Ambassador, was received by Baroness Jenny Chapman, Minister of State for International Development and Africa, at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Minister Jean-Baptiste requested, among other things, the support of the British Government for Haiti's security forces, including equipment and supplies to continue combating the scourge of insecurity, pending the deployment of the Gang Supression Force (GSF). 222nd Vertières : A Series of Tributes to Heroes National Education Fund (FNE) : "On this November 18th, our Nation’s memory turns to Vertières, the summit where a people thirsting for dignity repelled one of the most feared armies of its time. This date is not merely a historical reminder; it embodies the affirmation of a collective destiny, forged in the courage, discipline, and strategic vision of our ancestors. At Vertières, Haiti did not win a battle: it conquered its very breath. It demonstrated to the world that no force is invincible when a people chooses to rise up, advance, and triumph. This legacy compels us to transmit, educate, rebuild, and defend what is essential : education as a weapon of freedom; knowledge as a bulwark against all forms of domination. On this significant date, the National Education Fund (FNE) pays tribute to these men whose bravery remains a guiding light. May this day rekindle in each of us the commitment to effort, discipline, and unity that once made the colonial powers of the world tremble. Vertières is not just a memory : it is a call. A call to raise Haiti to the level of its own history." French Embassy : "On this November 18th, the French Embassy joins the Haitian people in commemorating the 222nd anniversary of the Battle of Vertières. A pivotal moment in Haitian history, Vertières symbolizes the courage, unity, and quest for freedom and dignity of the Haitian people. The French Embassy pays tribute to this legacy and reaffirms its commitment to building, with Haiti, a future of dialogue, shared memory, and cooperation. May the courage of the heroes of Vertières inspire the republican forces in the fight against the criminals who are destroying the country." European Union : On this November 18th, the European Union in Haiti wishes the Haitian people a wonderful commemoration of the 222nd anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, a decisive battle that led to independence. Europe in Haiti pays tribute to this legacy and reaffirms its commitment to dialogue and cooperation with the Haitian people. Port-au-Prince City Hall : "On the occasion of the 222nd anniversary of the historic Battle of Vertières, the Port-au-Prince City Hall wishes to honor the memory of all the heroes who participated in the great victory of the indigenous army, which thwarted all the plans of the white colonialists. Thanks to the courage of the women and men of the 'djougan' (a term referring to Haitian women and men) who stood up that day, we became a free people, one of the greatest historical models of the struggle for human rights in the world. This date should remind all Haitians, regardless of their ethnicity, who they truly are : a people who know what it means to fight for freedom and well-being. Let us remember Vertières, let us remember our heroes. Let's take our destiny into our own hands to give the symbol of Vertières the place it deserves. Let's put our country back on the path our ancestors always wanted to follow." HL/ HaitiLibre
