Haiti - Politic : Fruitful discussions with the European Union

On the sidelines of the CELAC/European Union Summit, Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste held fruitful discussions with Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission.

The discussions focused on the security situation in Haiti and forms of international cooperation that could support national efforts.

Minister Jean-Baptiste emphasized :

• The need to strengthen the Basket Fund for Security;

• The importance of encouraging partners to contribute more;

• The urgent need to provide Haiti with essential equipment to accelerate the implementation of actions on the ground.

The two officials also discussed the resumption and consolidation of short- and medium-term humanitarian projects aimed at promoting a return to normal life in vulnerable neighborhoods.

Ms. Kaja Kallas also expressed her solidarity with the Minister and the Haitian people following Hurricane Melissa.

This meeting took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and renewed commitment to strong cooperation between Haiti and the European Union.
