Food security deteriorates

Food security has deteriorated significantly in Haiti following Hurricane Melissa. In its latest report, the World Food Programme writes, "While assessments are ongoing, mobile monitoring indicates that 40% of households in the most affected communes now have a low food consumption score, an increase of 20% since the disaster," noting that "the proportion of families resorting to high-level negative coping strategies has also increased from 9% to 16%." Furthermore, agricultural losses are devastating: up to 90% of production destroyed in some regions, exacerbating food insecurity.
