Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of the Republic of Haiti, went this Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Gonaïves where she received an ovation on its arrival by an enthusiastic audience that awaited her and a delegation composed of civil authorities, religious officers whose Bishop Yves-Marie Pean, the Departmental Delegate Jean Michel Auguste and the third senator of the Artibonite, Youri Latortue.

She congratulated the local authorities for their dedication and support to the government in order to improve the living conditions of the population of Gonaïves.

The First Lady took advantage of this visit to distribute gifts and toys to thousands of children and adults in several neighborhoods of the city, hospitals and medical centers such as Central Hospital, which temporarily replaces the Hospital Providence, the Health Center K-Soleil, the Diagnostic Center integrated, and the School of Law and Economics.

On the face of these children could be seen an immense joy because many of them did not expect this gesture. They did not hide their satisfaction and gratitude towards the First Lady. According to the lucky recipients, it is the first time that a wife of Chief of State visit the poor neighborhoods of the City of Independence.

The caravan of the Office of the First Lady was then stopped on the highway # 1 to visit the orphanage Mercy and Sharing https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-4581-haiti-social-sophia-martelly-visited-the-mercy-sharing-village.html that treats the cause of underprivileged children, disabled and infants with birth defects. In her sensitivity of mother, Mrs. Martelly promised her support and much more frequent visits.

Note that this distribution of toys and gifts in Gonaïves is the seventh of its kind conducted by the Office of the First Lady who does not intend to stop there.
