Haiti - Washington : Haiti at the UN / CARICOM-GEP / OAS tripartite meeting

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Haitian delegation, led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, participated in the Coordination Mechanism for the Roadmap Process for Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45596-haiti-politic-a-$26-billion-roadmap-for-stability-and-peace-in-haiti.html , the Tripartite Meeting convened by the Organization of American States (OAS), with the participation of the United Nations, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and the Group of Eminent Persons (GEP).

In his remarks, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé expressed his deep gratitude to all regional and international partners for their continued solidarity with Haiti at this crucial moment in its history. He welcomed the proposed roadmap developed by the OAS General Secretariat, which provides a basis for supporting the transition and national stabilization efforts.

Reaffirming the absolute priority given to restoring security, the Prime Minister announced measures aimed at reestablishing State control throughout the country, securing major highways, and substantially strengthening the capacities of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H).

He also reiterated the Transitional Government's firm commitment to organizing free, credible, transparent, and inclusive elections as soon as possible. He reiterated that preparations are progressing significantly: more than 85% of polling centers have been identified, 70% of electoral staff have been mobilized, and US$65 million in public funding has already been secured.

Finally, the Head of the Haitian Government called on the international community to maintain and strengthen its support, not only in terms of security and elections, but also in terms of governance, humanitarian assistance, and economic recovery. He emphasized the need for a strengthened and coordinated partnership to enable the Haitian people to regain peace, stability, and hope for the future.

"I had a positive and constructive meeting with the Prime Minister of Haiti, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. We agreed on the need to consolidate the Roadmap in order to move towards stability, democracy, and sustainable development in Haiti. The Haitian people deserve peace and opportunity. We also emphasized that the commitment of the international community is essential to move this process forward and build a secure, democratic, and prosperous future for Haiti," said OAS Secretary General Ramdin. "On Thursday, we will also hold a working meeting, led by myself and Haitian Foreign Minister Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, to jointly document the priorities, actions, and commitments under the OAS umbrella that will guide this phase of the Roadmap process. [...]"

The meeting of the Group of Friends of Haiti, held Wednesday at the OAS, reaffirmed that the international community is once again mobilizing to support Haiti and that the Haitian authorities are determined to give the Roadmap for Haiti a real chance.

A new version of the Roadmap will be published in the coming weeks, incorporating these elements and other contributions from this successful meeting.
