Cap-Haitien Mayor Attacked

The Cap-Haïtien Municipal Administration condemns in the strongest terms the verbal and physical assault inflicted on Yvrose Pierre, Mayor of the city, following the religious ceremony at Notre-Dame Cathedral celebrating the city's 355th anniversary, by individuals protesting the city's unsanitary conditions. "Such acts of violence, directed against the town's leading citizen, are unacceptable and undermine not only the Mayor, but also the municipal institution as a whole. The City Hall reiterates that disagreements and criticisms must be expressed within the framework of democratic dialogue and mutual respect, never through violence."
