Haiti - Environment : Youth, agro-ecology and green jobs

As part of the monitoring mission for projects supported by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) highlighted the progress of the "Youth, Agro-ecology, and Green Jobs for Peace in Haiti" project in the municipalities of Jérémie and Corail.

Thanks to the training provided, many young people have adopted sustainable agroecological practices : composting, crop rotation, agricultural diversification, and sustainable water and soil management. The community plots created have become both spaces for collective learning and sources of income, paving the way for real local economic opportunities.

The testimonies collected illustrate the concrete impact : for many young people, agroecology is now a credible alternative to exodus, a lever for dignity, and a means for a sustainable future in their communities.

Local authorities confirm that these initiatives directly contribute to social cohesion and conflict prevention by promoting intergenerational dialogue around the sustainable management of natural resources.

Although challenges remain, particularly logistical and climate-related, the mission demonstrated that UNEP and the ILO, through this innovative project, are bringing unique added value to the PBF portfolio : transforming the environment and green jobs into real levers of community resilience in Haiti.
