Haiti - Insecurity : Women and girls are the most affected by violence

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warns of the escalation of violence perpetrated by armed groups in the Artibonite, West, and Central departments of Haiti, which is severely affecting women and girls, who constitute the majority of those displaced since June. Essential services for them are also lacking.

Based on data from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), OCHA reports that more than 45,000 people have been displaced since June, 55% of them women, in the Artibonite and Central departments alone. In total, nearly 240,000 people are now displaced in these two departments, with the humanitarian response remaining severely underfunded.

Only 8% of the nearly $29 million appeal launched by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has been funded. Despite this, under the coordination of OCHA, UNFPA and its partners continue to provide assistance, and more than 12,600 people benefited from sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence services between June and July.
