Haiti - Training : Haiti to send 400 police officers to Brazil

On Monday, July 28, 2025, Fritz Alphonse Jean, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, announced at a press conference that, as part of bilateral cooperation with Brazil, 400 Haitian National Police (PNH) officers will leave Haiti for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next month for intensive, enhanced training to address the gang violence that controls more than 80% of Port-au-Prince.

Currently, Haiti has approximately 10,000 police officers and 1,300 soldiers to protect the entire territory and a population of nearly 12 million, Jean said.

A total of 700 police officers and soldiers from the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd'H) will be trained by foreign countries in the coming months and will then join a Kenyan-led, UN-supported mission in its fight against gangs.

Last week, a first contingent of 150 FAd'H soldiers was sent to Mexico for training https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45408-haiti-security-the-first-contingent-of-the-fad-h-on-its-way-to-mexico.html
