Haiti - Humanitarian : Spain donates emergency equipment to civil protection

On Monday, July 14, 2025, Marco Antonio Penin Toledano, the Spanish Ambassador accredited to Haiti, visited the Civil Protection Directorate (DPC) in Port-au-Prince to preside over the handover ceremony for humanitarian equipment from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the signing of the donation certificate.

Faced with the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Haiti, with a gradual increase in the number of internally displaced persons due to violence perpetrated by armed groups, AECID implemented an emergency response by donating essential equipment to the DPC to meet the growing needs of the population. Thirteen tons of supplies arrived by plane at Toussaint Louverture Airport on Saturday, July 12th, thanks to the logistical support of the World Food Programme (WFP), which organized a charter flight to transport humanitarian supplies to Haiti, pre-positioned at the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (DRC) in Panama, for various organizations.

This donation, estimated at over US$150,000, includes tents of various sizes, kitchen utensil kits, mosquito nets, water purification equipment, four 10 m³ flexible tanks, two generators, and equipment for the construction of various types of latrines, among other things. These materials will help improve the hygiene and sanitation conditions of hundreds of families who have lost their homes.

After the ceremony, a tour of the DPC facilities, the crisis room, and the warehouse where these 13 tons of equipment have been stored pending their next distribution in the coming days was organized.

A third of the equipment will be deployed in the Southeast department, where Spanish Cooperation focuses a large part of its operations in the country and which is frequently affected by storms and hurricanes. During this hurricane season, prevention and preparedness are essential for a rapid and appropriate response in the event of an emergency.

The Haitian delegation expressed its satisfaction and gratitude for the usefulness and quality of the equipment received.
