Haiti - Culture : «BIC Tizon Dife» at the Haitian Embassy in Canada

The Book Club of the Embassy of Haiti in Canada welcomed the talented Haitian singer-songwriter, rapper-slam poet, and singer Roosevelt Saillant, aka "BIC Tizon Dife" in a festive and reunion atmosphere.

Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Marie Françoise Suzan, in her welcoming remarks, framed this event as a way of promoting Haitian culture in Canada and strengthening the necessary ties within the Haitian community.

The audience, composed mostly of members of Ottawa's Haitian community, was treated to musical pieces, some of which, in response to questions, captivated the audience with reminiscences of Haiti of yesteryear. This was the case with the popular song "Pòtoprens" whose powerful lyrics reflect on the current reality of the Haitian capital. The legendary singer also performed his hit "Lè mwen wè w" which touched the hearts of the audience, and "Vini Kòmè" or "Kè klete" all moving songs.

The artist invited us all to identify our mission and responsibilities for the advancement of the country. For her part, hers has been evident for 25 years : to raise awareness among her compatriots at home and abroad through her committed music and to continually promote Creole.

This show was also an opportunity for the artist to sign copies of her latest CD, "Summer in Winter" which the audience could purchase.

The evening concluded with the artist receiving a certificate of honor and merit from the Embassy of Haiti, demonstrating the diplomatic mission's deep appreciation for this heritage whose voice resonates in our hearts and continues to move us.
