Haiti - Elections : A new CEP is necessary acording to Senator Jeanty

The Senator of Nippes, Jean Willian Jeanty (Konbit) has argued in favor of an evaluation of the last elections before thinking about organizing the next partial senatorial elections [third renewal of the Senate] and municipal.

According to Senator Jeanty, the evaluation is imperative to avoid repeating the same mistakes of the last elections, noting that the organization of the last election has contributed to tear the social tissue as well as creating division among Haitians, and this for over a year. The elected of Nippes also recalls that some advisers of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) are still missing.

"...We can not hold new elections without assessing the reasons for which the last election was the outcome that we know..." explained Jean William Jeanty, speaking among other of frauds that took place.

According to Senator Jeanty,According to Senator Jeanty, it is important to establish a new CEP, Permanent this time, as provided in the Constitution. Article 289.3 states "The mission of the Provisional Electoral Council shall end with the inauguration of President-elect."

"...We must move forward without haste, but we must move forward anyway..." declared the parliamentarian, before adding "...the people have the right to know when the election will take place and what kind of election it will."

In October, Pierre Louis Opont, Director General of the CEP had explained "The elections are not possible for the end of this year given the duration of the preparation process. The political and technical conditions are not met" noting that no presidential decree convoking the people to the polls have been published and that the establishment of the electoral machine can not be done in less than four months.
