Haiti - Diaspora : The Minister of MHAVE on tour in the Dominican Republic

On Thursday, June 5, 2025, Kathia Verdier, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), met with Ricot Almonord, Head of the Haitian Consulate in Dajabón, to assess the quality of services and support offered to Haitian compatriots. They also assessed the living conditions of Haitians in the region and the challenges they face. The objective was to gather valuable information and identify ways forward to provide quality services and assistance to Haitians.

The points discussed included :

- Strengthening reception and documentation services for Haitians in the process of migrating or recently returned (passport, national identity card, birth certificate, etc...);

- Intensifying coordination to document cases of human rights violations, particularly those related to deportation.

On Friday, June 6, 2025, after her visit to the Haitian Consulate in Dajabòn, the Minister of the Diaspora met with Haitian Ambassador Fritz Longchamp at the Haitian Embassy in Santo Domingo, as well as representatives from several Haitian sectors from different regions. Among those present was Edwin Paraison, Founder of the Zile Foundation and former Minister of the MHAVE (Minister of Foreign Affairs).

Discussions focused primarily on legal documents, administrative support, and the humane treatment of Haitians living in the Dominican Republic.

Minister Verdier emphasized the need to establish stronger structures to guarantee the rights and dignity of all Haitians abroad, wherever they may be.

The Zile Foundation and other stakeholders recommend, in particular, the creation of humanitarian corridors and integrated monitoring of human rights compliance during expulsions and repatriations.

Minister Verdier confirmed that all these recommendations are part of the ministry's revitalization plan, which already includes the creation of the necessary mechanisms and the strengthening of collaboration with human rights organizations for all our citizens living abroad.
