On the night of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, armed individuals looted and set fire to the premises of the automobile company Automeca, a major vehicle dealership located at the entrance to the Simon-Pélé neighborhood, on the airport road. It has been in business for 50 years in Haiti, selling Isuzu, Subaru, and Volvo vehicles, as well as generators and machinery.

The company suffered significant material damage. No casualty figures have been released. An inventory is underway, and experts are on site.

Local residents have been trying in vain to contact the fire department and police since midnight. Emergency services arrived late. By 8:00 a.m. Thursday, neither the fire department nor the police had yet arrived.

Equipment that the bandits were unable to remove due to its size or weight was also set on fire. The walls of the establishment were seriously damaged by the intensity of the fire.
