Haiti - Security : Dominican Army to Send Reinforcements to the Border at Dajabón

On Friday, May 2nd, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, Commander-in-Chief of the Dominican Army, conducted an inspection tour of the military's operational readiness at the border in the provinces of Dajabón and Montecristi.

In Dajabón, the General visited sites where cattle rustling had been reported. He announced the deployment of 300 additional troops next week to reinforce the border in Dajabón, in order to address the ongoing threats posed by the situation in Haiti.

He then visited the province of Montecristi, where cases of environmental and natural resource degradation have been reported. He stated that the army would be present wherever illegal activities occurred to counter them.

The high military commander was accompanied during his tour of the provinces of Montecristi and Dajabón by Brigadier General Fredy Solo Thormann, Colonels Guillermo Arciniega and Alex Sánchez Familia, Commanders of the Fourth Brigade based in Mao and the Tenth Infantry Battalion based in Dajabón, among other officials.

The Dominican border is militarized like never before, with at least 12,000 troops deployed on the border (approximately 17% of the Dominican Armed Forces), ready to face any situation to defend the sovereignty of the Dominican territory, equipped with armored vehicles and heavy equipment, as well as the most modern surveillance instruments.
