Haiti - Religion : Statement of President of the International Organization, Nation of Islam
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laurent Lamothe welcomed Sunday at the Diplomatic Lounge, the Honourable Louis Farrakhan, President of the International Religious Organization Nation of Islam. Born Louis Eugene Walcott, the African-American religious leader is accompanied by his two son, Wallace and Joshua Farrakhan, as well as the international ambassador of his movement Akbar Muhammed.

Mr. Farrakhan will take advantage of his stay to inaugurate at the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, a central of water treatment, solar powered. This investment of humanitarian nature should provide, for free, to the population, 30,000 gallons of water a day "...we will bring, if God wills, two other water purification units, and we will give one to the Christians and the other to the Muslims. We ask them to not ask money to the beneficiaries of these machines, that can produce 30,000 gallons of water a day..." declared the religious leader, who announced his intention to bring in Haiti, investors from the Islamic world.

The religious leaders said support the voodoo that he describes as a religion of freedom and intends to have meetings with Haitian religious leaders from all sectors (Catholic, Protestant and voodoo) "...voodoo is what I came to learn in Haiti, because I already know Christianity and Islam, but I know nothing of voodoo. In no way Haiti can return to its prior situation if we do not respect the voodoo and the people who gave to Haiti the freedom. I hope to meet with leaders from voodoo and Islam and those of the Christian religion so that I can see the similarities, that there is in all these great traditions so that the Haitian people can unite totally..."

The Head of Nation of Islam insisted on the fact that he was in the country to "learn from Haiti and Haitians" and declared that he intended to stay in the country until December 15.
