Haiti - Politic : Cuba reiterates its solidarity with Haiti

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, reaffirmed in New York his country's unwavering commitment to peace, development, and the self-determination of the Haitian people.

At the closing ceremony of the event "Haiti's Independence Debt: 200 Years Later" held during the fourth session of the Permanent Forum of People of African Descent in New York, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, emphasized that Haiti deserves substantial and selfless cooperation from the international community, not only for reconstruction but also for the promotion of its sustainable development.

"The international community has a moral obligation to support Haiti," said Soberón Guzmán, emphasizing the need for an influx of international financial support to revive the Haitian economy without external interference.

He recalled Cuba's historical solidarity with Haiti, particularly in key sectors such as health, education, sports, agriculture, and the environment, and reiterated his country's unwavering commitment to peace, development, and the self-determination of the Haitian people.

He also highlighted the role of Cuban doctors who, despite recent unfounded attacks by the United States government, have saved hundreds of thousands of lives in Haiti by performing millions of medical consultations, surgeries, and deliveries.

"Paying the international community's enormous debt to Haiti is a matter of historical justice," the diplomat said, reiterating that Cuba will stand by the Haitian people and continue to promote greater international cooperation for the benefit of this Caribbean nation.
