Haiti - FLASH : Royal Caribbean suspends its stopovers in Haiti again

Royal Caribbean has once again suspended its calls to Labadee in northern Haiti due to growing security concerns in Haiti.

Although Labadee, a popular private resort operated by Royal Caribbean, is located far from the violence in Port-au-Prince (210km north of the capital) and the hotel area is patrolled by a private security team, the extent of the civil unrest compelled Royal Caribbean to make this decision.

At least two cruise ships (Voyager of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas) have so far informed their passengers that they will be canceling Labadie, the company's private beach in Haiti.

The captain made announcements and letters were distributed to cruise passengers, informing them : "[...] out of an abundance of caution, instead of visiting Labadee on Thursday, we’ll enjoy a beautiful day in Nassau, Bahamas, on Friday..."

Passengers who booked excursions to Labadie will receive a refund of their stay to their SeaPass account in the form of onboard credit.

The letter concludes : "We sincerely apologize for this last-minute change."

It is unclear whether other cruises will also cancel their stops at Labadee.

Let's recall that Royal Caribbean had Already suspended its stopovers in Haiti from March 2024 until October of the same year.
