Haiti - Insecurity : A prolonged and widespread blackout threatens the population

A prolonged blackout threatens the population of the metropolitan area. For nearly two months, the substation supplying power to Carrefour-Feuilles, Martissant, and several other neighborhoods has been out of service due to vandalism and sabotage.

No intervention by EDH teams to repair the power is possible due to the daily gunfire in these areas.

The Federation of Haitian Electricity Workers' Unions (FESTRED'H) estimates that of the 10 substations supplying power to the metropolitan area, only four appear to still be operational.

The Federation is sounding the alarm and calling for government intervention to address these growing difficulties and prevent the total collapse of the electricity grid, whose supply is already limited to a few hours per day... for the "luckiest" ones.
