Haiti - Corruption : The ULCC will evaluate Saint Kitts and Nevis

Me Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), informs that Haiti has been designated by the Secretariat of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) as an examiner country to evaluate Saint Kitts and Nevis this year.

This review process will focus on the compliance of the mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption put in place by Saint Kitts and Nevis, with regard to the application of Chapters II (Preventive Measures) and V (Asset Recovery) of the UNCAC. It will allow the team of Haitian experts led by Me Joseph, in collaboration with the anti-corruption authorities of Saint Kitts and Nevis, to analyze the effectiveness of the institutional and legal measures adopted to prevent corruption and facilitate the recovery of ill-gotten assets, to assess their compliance with the provisions of the UNCAC and to assess the progress made. This review will also involve on-site visits for consultations with the Kittitian and Nevician authorities and civil society, in order to formulate appropriate recommendations within the framework of the Country Report.

The review of Saint Kitts and Nevis illustrates Haiti’s firm and constant commitment to the fight against corruption, a scourge that weakens democracies, erodes citizens’ trust in institutions and deprives States of resources essential to their development. It will be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and in accordance with the guidelines established for this purpose.

It should be noted that as a State party to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) since May 14, 2007, Haiti actively participates in the monitoring mechanism for its application. The country has already evaluated South Korea (in 2022) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37875-haiti-justice-haiti-selected-as-evaluating-country-of-corruption-in-south-korea.html and Brazil and Haiti has been evaluated by Indonesia.
