Haiti - Canada : 12 Haitian-Quebecers honored (list)

As part of Black History Month, the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the Bloc Québécois, during a ceremony at Maison Ludger-Duvernay in Montreal, honored 12 Haitian-Quebecers on February 27 for their contributions to the growth of Quebec society and the vitality of the French language.

For the Lorquet Foundation, these 12 Quebecers of Haitian origin are a source of inspiration for all young people of Haitian origin living in the diaspora, proof that with discipline, perseverance and determination, they can also achieve their most ambitious dreams in life.

List of recipients of a distinction :

Dieudonné Larose :

Singer-composer of music Compas; Eddy Antoine:

National team player who participated in the 1974 World Cup;

Ms. Élida Pierre-Louis :

Nurse practitioner who traveled to Montreal schools to provide health care to those in need;

Fayolle Jean :

Comedian, singer, poet and one of the first Haitians to join a Quebec media outlet;

Frantz Turenne :

Sports commentator for about 30 years on the radio in Montreal;

Jean-Claude Fonrose :

Sports commentator on the radio for nearly three decades in Montreal);

Joseph Jean-Gilles :

Director of "GapVies", an organization dedicated to education, awareness and prevention of HIV transmission, as well as hepatitis C and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections;

Michel Baptiste :

Prominent businessman who has succeeded in the restaurant industry through "Méli-Mélo Caraïbes";

Ms. Myrlande Pierre :

Human rights defender for about ten years;

Dr. Oberde Bellefleur :

Dentist serving the community and particularly the underprivileged for about 40 years;

Raymond Laurent :

Unionist, journalist, host of the radio show "Samedi Midi Inter" and presenter on community television for 50 years in Montreal;

Marc-Yves Volcy :

Singer-producer and teacher.
