Haiti - Berrette : Launch of construction work on the Drinking Water Supply System

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA) via the Regional Office of Drinking Water and Sanitation (OREPA South), officially launched the construction work on the Drinking Water Supply System (SAEP) of Berrette, 3rd section Gros-Marin, commune of Cavaillon (South Department).

This project, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and implemented in partnership with UNICEF, aims to improve access to drinking water for the inhabitants of the region.

On the instructions of the General Directorate of DINEPA, Philippe Eliscar, Director of OREPA Sud, officially launched the work, marking an important step towards improving the hydraulic infrastructure of the area.

Project details :

The works, entrusted to the firm EF CONSTRUCTION under the supervision of OREPA Sud, will extend over a period of 5 months and include in particular :

  • The construction of a catchment to collect drinking water;

  • The creation of a 100 m³ collection basin;

  • The installation of a 100 m³ reinforced concrete tank to supply the village of Berrette;

  • The installation of a pumping station with a submersible or horizontal pump;

  • The extension of the distribution network over 1.5 km with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes with a nominal pressure of 6 bars (PN 6) of 100mm and 40mm;

  • The installation of a generator and a photovoltaic station to ensure the power supply;

  • The construction of a 24m discharge line and a 150m gravity supply line connecting the Cavaillon River to the collection basin.

Despite the difficult situation in which the country finds itself, DINEPA continues its efforts to provide the country with modern and sustainable drinking water and sanitation infrastructure in both urban and rural areas, for the benefit of local communities.
