Haiti - Jacmel : Joint declaration of the axes of cooperation between Haiti and Colombia

Leslie Voltaire, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, and the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro Urrego, met in Jacmel for a historic presidential meeting.

Summary of the Joint Declaration between Haiti and Colombia on the occasion of the official visit of President Gustavo Petro on January 22, 2025 in Jacmel:

Technical and Agricultural Cooperation :

Both parties welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Agriculture of the two countries. This agreement provides for knowledge exchanges and initiatives to strengthen food security, support smallholder agriculture, and promote rural commercialization.

Environment and Climate Change :

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to collaborate on environmental projects, including ecological restoration, renewable energy, and transboundary water management.

Culture and Heritage :

The Presidents highlighted the importance of Haiti’s historical role in the independence of Latin America and the commitment to promote cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Security and Defense :

The two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their cooperation in security matters, including the training of forces to combat transnational crimes.

Education and Academic Exchanges :

Discussions focused on creating educational opportunities for Haitian youth, including learning Spanish, developing virtual education, and collaboration between academic institutions in both countries.

Trade and Economy :

The two parties, within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding, reiterated their commitment to intensifying trade and stimulating bilateral investments, particularly in support of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Humanitarian Aid :

In accordance with Article 2 of the Regulations of the International Cooperation and Assistance Fund (FOCAI), Colombia is committed to providing humanitarian aid to Haiti, through modalities such as financial aid, food assistance and the donation of goods.
