Haiti - FLASH : The commune of Gros Morne attacked, at least 11 dead, injured and houses burned

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, heavily armed individuals linked to the "Kokorat San Ras" gang attacked the commune of Gros-Morne (Artibonite), more precisely the inhabitants of Grépin and Campêche, two rural localities in the Rivière Blanche section. The assault, which occurred shortly before noon, left at least 11 dead and 4 people injured by gunfire, one of whom was seriously injured (provisional toll), were reported after the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO) with the arrival of reinforcements from Gonaïves repelled the attackers according to Hubert Cénéac, the Mayor of Gros-Morne,

The bandits also looted and burned several houses.

This new killing is the latest in a series of violence in the Artibonite region.

Hubert Cénéac, Mayor of Gros-Morne calls on the authorities to have a greater police presence in the town, which has been the target of repeated attacks by the gang "Kokorat San Ras" in recent months.

According to the Mayor, the number of police officers on site must be increased, well equipped and have at least 2 armored vehicles to confront these gangs. Without sufficient resources, the inhabitants of Gros-Morne and surrounding areas will continue to live in fear under the threat of these gangs.
