The private Haitian airline Sunrise Airways has confirmed that the resumption of cargo flights between Cap-Haïtien and Port-au-Prince has been effective since Thursday, January 16, 2025.

MHAVE and Ambassador Hankins discuss the diaspora in the USA

On Thursday, January 16, 2025, Ms. J. E Kathia Verdier, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) received Dennis Hankins, the American Ambassador to Haiti. The overall conditions of Haitians living in the United States were discussed, as well as security in Haiti, among other things. New avenues of collaboration between the American Embassy and MHAVE were explored, particularly in terms of technical support, the creation of exchange channels between the two institutions on specific services, in the strict interest of the diaspora in the USA.

Gas Stations : Unacceptable practices

The Prime Minister's Office has sent a letter to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry regarding unacceptable practices observed in certain gas stations that deliberately refuse, under various pretexts, to accept prepaid fuel vouchers, even though they are regularly purchased by State institutions. These behaviors cause significant harm to beneficiaries. Consequently, the Prime Minister's Office has asked the Ministry of Commerce to take all necessary measures to immediately put an end to these actions and apply appropriate sanctions against offenders.

50% increase in the number of displaced children

Catherine Russell, Executive Director of UNICEF, revealed that the number of children in internal displacement in Haiti has increased by nearly 50% since September 2024 (4 1/2 months) due to the incessant violence perpetrated by armed groups. This represents approximately one in eight children nationwide. Embassy of Haiti in Washington closed

The Embassy of Haiti in Washington D.C. will be closed on January 20, 2025 due to the Martin Luther King Day Federal Holiday. Regular activities will resume on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

DR : 14,633 Haitians returned to Haiti

The General Directorate of Migration reports that 14,633 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation were returned to Haiti in the first 15 days of this year (deported and repatriated), an average of 975 Haitians per day. These operations were carried out in coordination with members of the Dominican Air Force and Navy, the National Police, the military unit of the Ciudad Tranquila Operational Force (CIUTRAN) and the Public Ministry. In addition, 6 Dominicans and 1 Haitian were brought to justice for human trafficking.
