Haiti - FLASH : First reinforcements from Guatemala and El Salvador have arrived (Video)

Friday, January 3rd, 2024, 75 Guatemalan soldiers and 8 Salvadoran soldiers disembarked from a US Army military plane on the tarmac of Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince. And will join the Kenyan police officers of the Multinational Mission for Security Support in Haiti (MMSS), already deployed on the ground, to help fight armed gangs.

These new reinforcements were welcomed during a welcoming ceremony in the presence, among others, of Leslie Voltaire President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, the American Ambassador to Haiti Denis Hankins, the Kenyan Commander of the multinational force Godfrey Otunge and the Commander in Chief a.i. of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil.

A second contingent of 75 Guatemalan soldiers is expected to arrive shortly in Haiti, bringing Guatemala's total strength to 150 men, as announced by Guatemalan President Bernardo Arévalo on September 23, 2024, during the meeting of the Special Advisory Group on Haiti of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), in New York https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43270-haiti-flash-guatemala-confirms-it-will-send-150-soldiers-to-haiti.html

Concerning El Salvador, the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador officially approved (by 57 votes out of 60 deputies) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43531-haiti-flash-el-salvador-approves-sending-a-military-contingent-to-haiti.html the sending of a contingent to join the Mission in Haiti in its fight. At the moment there is no official information on when the rest of this contingent will arrive or on the total number of its personnel.
