Haiti - Economy : The Government commits to supporting the «Madan Sara» of Port-au-Prince

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met with a delegation from the organization "Rasanbleman Madan Sara d'Ayiti" (RAMSA), which illustrates the importance that the Government attaches to the informal sector, a true pillar of our economy, today weakened by persistent insecurity in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince.

Saluting the exceptional courage and resilience of the Madan Sara, the Prime Minister recalled that these traders, everyday heroines, enable thousands of Haitian families to meet their needs despite extremely difficult working conditions.

"You are the backbone of our popular economy," said the Prime Minister, reiterating his government's firm commitment to supporting these workers in difficulty, by offering them concrete solutions to revitalize their activities.

To this end, he announced :

- Access to credit and financing at preferential rates to enable traders to restart their activities and strengthen their economic autonomy;

- Support for national production to stimulate trade between the Madan Sara and local producers, in a spirit of economic synergy.

During the discussions, the representatives of the Madan Sara expressed their concerns about the major challenges they face, including the growing difficulties in selling their products due to insecurity.

The Prime Minister acknowledged these concerns "I fully appreciate the challenges you are facing. The Government is determined to act quickly and effectively to provide lasting solutions."
