Reactions to the Cité Soleil Massacre: Office de Protection du Citoyen : "The Office de Protection du Citoyen (OPC) expresses its indignation and deep sadness following the tragic massacre of more than 184 Haitian citizens, aged between 60 and 80, ordered by the gang leader "Micanor" in Cité Soleil (Warf Jérémie). These inhumane acts motivated by unfounded superstitious beliefs, constitute a flagrant violation of human rights and an affront to human dignity. The OPC recalls that accusations of witchcraft in no way justify violence or summary execution. The elderly, who have contributed so much to society, deserve respect and protection, and not to be victims of unacceptable violence. » Brian A.
