Haiti - FLASH : Dissolution of the RAM Group

Haiti - FLASH : Dissolution of the RAM Group

Saturday, November 9, 2024, Richard Auguste Morse, the leader of the legendary root music group RAM, which marked several generations with its unique blend of traditional Haitian music and Rara and which profoundly influenced the Haitian music scene with memorable albums and historic concerts, announced, on the group's X account, that he was officially leaving the group he founded in the 1990s and guided alongside Lunise for years and also announced the dissolution of RAM.

An announcement that took everyone by surprise because the group, despite periods of turbulence, seemed to still be a solid institution in the Haitian musical landscape.

RAM, was one of the pillars of the Haitian musical revival, merging traditional music and modern influences. RAM has brought rara into the spotlight and contributed to the revitalization of popular songs and traditional instruments: Defile (2008), Ya Sezi (2009), and Yon Bèl Ayiti (2012) among others…

Announcement of the end of the RAM Group:

"Bonjou tout moun. M ap ekri nou pou di nou ke m ap kite djaz RAM. RAM pa egziste ankò » (Hello everyone. I am writing to announce that I am leaving the RAM group. RAM no longer exists.)

"Merci à Lunise ki se pi gwo talan mizikal peyi a janm konnen" (Thanks to Lunise who is the greatest musical talent the country has ever known)

'Pa bliye fòs peyi dAyiti se chante tradisyonèl yo ak tanbou yo ak Rara/ se pa ni batri ni nouvo mizik yo' (Remember that Haiti's strength is the traditional songs, the drums and rara / it's not the drums or the new music.)

"Richard Auguste Morse

Ayibobo"

The end of RAM is very sad news and leaves a considerable void in the Haitian music sector... Morse did not specify the reasons for this sudden dissolution...
