Haiti - Training : Virtual course for future health professionals

The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Office in Haiti, launched this week an online training program for future health professionals.

This course, designed by the Haitian Node of the Virtual Campus of Public Health (CVSP), aims to prepare graduates in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and other disciplines for their period of social service, required to obtain their license to practice.

In his speech, Dr. Yves Gaston Deslouches, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Public Health said "Social Service is one of the pillars of the MSPP strategy to guarantee access to care throughout the country. Thanks to this preparatory program, our social service residents will be better equipped to meet the challenges they are expected to encounter in remote areas."

With more than 1,600 new graduates per year, this program offers standardized training and awareness of the realities on the ground. Online training is becoming an appropriate solution, particularly in a context where security constraints limit the possibilities of face-to-face training.

This training helps to strengthen the technical skills of young graduates and prepares them to meet the administrative, logistical and structural challenges encountered in the field and to fill the skills gaps between the various training institutions.

"The establishment of this training demonstrates a strong desire of PAHO/WHO to support the Ministry in any project aimed at improving the management, distribution, and quality of human resources in health," says Mr. Dadji Kwami, PAHO/WHO Acting Representative in Haiti.

By officially launching this program, the MSPP and PAHO/WHO reaffirm their commitment to supporting young professionals in their careers. This training marks a step forward for the efficiency of health services in remote regions and strengthens the resilience of graduates in the face of challenges on the ground.
