Haiti - FLASH : A team of Bahamian soldiers has arrived in Haiti

Friday, October 18, 2024, an advance team composed of 6 soldiers from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) out of the 150 men confirmed last August by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas Fred Mitchell https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43052-icihaiti-bahamas-rbdf-troops-in-pre-deployment-phase-for-haiti.html arrived in Port-au-Prince to join the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) led by Kenya.

Colonel Kevron Henry, Deputy Commander of the MMSS Forces, and Smith Julian, Chargé d’Affaires of the Bahamas, accompanied among others by executives from the Bahamas Consulate office in Haiti and senior officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH) were present to welcome these 6 soldiers.

Julian told the media that the Bahamas will provide operational support and strengthen the capacity of the Haitian National Police (PNH) to fight against armed gangs. Specifying that the Bahamas brings particular expertise in the maritime patrols that they will conduct in a continuous and coordinated manner in Haitian territorial waters to deter and counter threats to maritime security.

They will also lead port security by ensuring the security and functionality of strategic ports in Haiti, thus facilitating humanitarian aid, economic development and political stability.

In addition, the Bahamas will implement measures to prevent illegal migration and combat trafficking in narcotics, weapons and other contraband goods.
