"D-1" Back to school and security On Saturday, Me Carlos Hercule, Minister of Justice and Public Security, held a meeting with Ministers Antoine Augustin (Education), Moise Jean-Pierre Fils (environment), Raphaël Hosty (Public Works) and senior officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH) around the start of the school year scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Minister Hercule assured that the PNH had taken adequate measures to promote the return to school with complete peace of mind. He also met with the public security brigadiers who must be deployed in the streets in order to accompany the students. Haitian coffee under spotligts in Japan The Embassy of Haiti in Japan held an exhibition on Haitian coffee at the premises of the "Ueshima Coffee Academy" in Tokyo. This exhibition presented the origins, particularities and weight of coffee in the Haitian economy of yesterday and today. The public present was able to taste 3 types of Haitian coffee. Conille visits aspiring police officers Prime Minister Garry Conille visited aspiring police officers of the 34th promotion of the National Police, at the Police Academy, in Frères (750 aspiring police officers, including 213 women). The Head of Government took the opportunity to encourage them to take their training seriously because the Nation expects a lot from them. Towards electronic signature The National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) organized a workshop last week on the implementation of electronic signature for a digital transformation in Haiti. For José Jean Baptiste, Director General of CONATEL, it is a question of applying the law on electronic signature and raising awareness among the stakeholders concerned in order to secure online transactions. Strengthening Local Water Governance On September 24, Swiss Cooperation in Haiti and DINEPA co-chaired the 6th meeting of the strategic steering committee of the Program for Strengthening Local Water and Sanitation Governance (REGLEAU), implemented by "Helvetas Swiss Inter-cooperation". The results achieved, challenges and prospects for continuing the actions and enhancing the achievements of this program in the drinking water and sanitation sector in Haiti were discussed.
