Haiti - Politic : Brazilian President Lula da Silva promises help to Garry Conille

Earlier this week, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Garry Conille, accompanied by his Chief of Staff Nesmy Manigat and Chancellor Dominique Dupuy, met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Garry Conille welcomed the support of Brazil, which has provided weapons to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) and will provide training to more than 400 Haitian police officers.

Conille described to Lula the difficult situation in Haiti caused by the actions of armed groups and explained the actions of international forces that have helped the Government stabilize the situation and recover territories dominated by gangs. He mentioned that the defense forces are being reorganized and that there is no doubt that there is a solution to the situation, but that it is necessary to have equipment and training.

President Lula da Silva stressed the need to formulate an international action plan to help Haiti recover and indicated that Brazil was willing to assist Haiti in developing this plan and in promoting the debate, both in terms of political awareness and resource mobilization.

Lula promised to work with international partners to find lasting solutions to the Haitian crisis while advocating Haiti's cause in the summits that his country will participate in, including the upcoming G20 and also in the BRICS community.

"President Lula has generously committed to mobilizing other countries to support the situation in Haiti. He has of course been generous with his time, inspiring in terms of ideas, and we look forward to continuing to cooperate with Brazil in the future," Garry Conille said after the meeting.
