To celebrate the 221st anniversary of the Battle of Vertière on November 18, 2024, the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (RUEH), through the Directorate of Student Life, has launched a competition "Translation and interpretation of patriotic songs".

The first phase of the competition is the translation of a patriotic song into Creole. The second phase is the interpretation of the translated song.

After the jury's evaluation for the translation phase, 20 students who have best succeeded in translating the song they have chosen will have to perform this song in a second phase in front of a jury that will include professionals in the field of music in Haiti.

The grand finale of this contest will take place on November 14, 2024. The 10 winners will receive a series of Prizes such as laptops, books, medals, etc...

The deadline for students to submit the translated song to the Office of the Directorate of Student Life at the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti is Friday, October 7, 2024 before 4:00 p.m..

Among the patriotic songs that students will have to translate, they can consider the 4 listed below:

1) Fière Haïti (hymne à la jeunesse)

2) Hymne au drapeau (Carole Demesmin)

3) Quand nos aïeux brisèrent leurs entraves

4) Salut beau drapeau de Vertières
