Haiti - Education : 199 Higher Education Institutions recognized in Haiti (List)

The Ministry of National Education, through its Directorate of Higher Education and Research (DESR), has just published the list of public and private Higher Education Institutions (IES), recognized in Haiti.

IES are defined as "All training provided after the end of Secondary Studies" according to the (Decree of June 30, 2020 on the organization, operation and modernization of Higher Education, Article 5 paragraph 23).

Higher education institutions (IES) are divided into four components :

1) State University of Haiti (UEH), an autonomous public institution: 23 entities;

2) Network of Public Universities in the Region (RUPR) composed of 10 universities in 9 geographical departments of the Country. This network is normatively attached to the Ministry of National Education;

3) Private higher education institutions: 158 institutions;

4) Higher education institutions attached to certain ministries: 8 training centers or schools.

The training offer in the higher education sub-sector in Haiti is largely dominated by the private sector (93%) compared to 7% of the public sector.

Geographic distribution of the private sector offer:

Departments :

West : 75.03%

North : 8.97%

South : 3.20%

Artibonite : 3.20%

Grand-Anse : 2.56%

South-East : 2.56%

North-West : 1.92%

Center : 1.28%

Nippes : 0.64%

North-East : 0.64%.

For the public sector, the UEH is not present in the departments of Grand-anse and Nippes.

The RUPR is not present in the West Department.

It should be noted that due to the socio-political situation in Haiti over the past 5 years, some IES may no longer exist or be relocated.
