Haiti - Security : Optimistic Bahamas for its deployment in the mission

Friday August 16, 2024, the Inspector General Deputy General of the Kenyanne Police Kenyanne Godfrey Otunge, commander of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), welcomed the Bahamas Ambassador Jerusa Ali, who was accompanied by Commander Julian Smith, Business manager of the Bahamas Embassy in Haiti.

Ambassador Jerusa Ali visited the LSA 1 base of the mission, in particular the level 2 hospital, managed by the Aspen, the water treatment and recycling plant, the washing area and the main area of ​​services .

Ambassador Jerusa Ali was informed of operations in the base before having a behind closed-door meeting with the Otunge management team in LSA2.

She appreciated the work accomplished by the Kenyan contingent since his arrival and revealed that the Bahamas were optimistic about their deployment in Haiti after the evaluation they made.

Captain Brown, who contributed to the concept of maritime operations in the mission, stressed that the Bahamas are an essential partner of the mission by ensuring maritime security. He said the Bahamian government is trying to conclude bilateral agreements with Haiti in order to obtain a solid legal basis for its deployment.

The chargé d'affaires, commander Julian Smith, said that the Bahamas take additional measures on the ground : the embassy in Haiti has reopened and security assessments are underway, with a view to resuming direct flights between Port-au-Prince and Nassau.

Otunge thanked the Bahamas for their support for the mission and wanted the Bahamas Froce to unfold more quickly than expected.
