The General Directorate of the National Police of Haiti informs the public that a team of the Anti-Gang Tactical Unit (UTAG) on board an armored vehicle was ambushed in Delmas 18 [Sunday June 9, 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42522-haiti-insecurity-an-armored-vehicle-burned-3-police-officers-killed.html ] by a group of armed bandits led by gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, alias "Barbecue".

During this unfortunate situation, 2 police officers were killed on the spot and 2 others were able to be evacuated thanks to the arrival of reinforcements from several units. However, one of the evacuated police officers succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital, and the armored vehicle trapped in a trench dug by the bandits was set on fire and weapons taken away.

The General Directorate condemns the villainous assassination of these valiant police officers who have always engaged in the most perilous situations and will not fail to take steps to ensure that justice is done to them and their memory honored.

An investigation into the circumstances of this tragedy has already been launched with a view to determining the circumstances of the event and determining responsibilities. Once the results of the investigation are known, the public will be informed.
