Haiti - Insecurity : An armored vehicle burned, 3 police officers killed

Sunday June 9, 2024, 3 agents of the Temporary Anti-Gang Unit (UTAG) fell into an ambush and were killed in the "Sans Fil" zone in Delmas 18. They are Fermetus Emelin (30th promotion) and Clovis Peterson (32nd) and Piton Wilkens Jean Junior (31st). In addition, a 4th agent was injured in the exchange of fire according to Lionel Lazarre, the Coordinator of the National Union of Haitian Police Officers (SYNAPOHA).

Jimmy Chérizier alias "Barbecue" claimed responsibility for this attack on his territory. The assault rifles, magazines and ammunition of the killed agents were recovered by the bandits and presented in a propaganda video...

Furthermore, the armored car of the police, immobilized in a trench dug by the bandits in Delmas 18 was looted and set on fire.

In a note published Sunday evening, the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) expresses its indignation following this ambush which cost the lives of 3 agents of the UTAG unit and sends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims as well as their colleagues of the police institution.

The French Embassy in Haiti presents its most sincere condolences to the General Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) as well as to all the women and men of the PNH who mourn their cowardly murdered brothers in arms.
