Haiti - Security : The OPC demands changes at the level of the PNH high command

The Office for Citizen Protection (OPC), an independent national institution for the promotion and protection of human rights, learned with dismay and indignation of the odious assassination of 3 American missionaries (including 2 Americans) https://www.haitilibre .com/article-42404-haiti-flash-three-missionaries-including-a-couple-of-americans-killed-by-gangs.html.

The OPC presents its sympathies to the families of many victims of criminal actions, in particular to the congregation "Missions in Haiti inc", the Baker, Llyod families, hard hit by the terror of armed bandits in the country.

"The OPC, like many observers, believed that the appointment, followed by the installation of members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), would curb the ardor of the criminals and facilitate the restoration of authority of State...

However, since the date of the installation of the members of the CPT, April 25, 2024, armed gangs have intensified their criminal actions characterized by cases of assassinations, kidnappings, rapes of women and girls, without forgetting the fires in public and private buildings, police stations and sub-police stations.

In the meantime, the leaders of the police institution are overwhelmed by events and display an inability to curb the terror of the bandits.

[...] Consequently, the OPC demands changes at the level of the High Command of the National Police, a sine qua non condition for the eradication of armed gangs in the country.

The OPC invites the members of the CPT to seriously assess the seriousness of the situation and to fully play their historic role in restoring security throughout the national territory with, of course, the deployment of the multinational force of support for security and the establishment of the National Security Council [...]"
