Monday May 13, 2024, heavily armed individuals set fire to the main customs barrier of Cap-Haitien then vandalized the premises, threatened employees and closed the offices...

Reacting to this attack on its "X" account, the General Customs Administration (AGD) says it is convinced that this attack is linked to arms traffickers because of the latest seizures and writes "Following the major seizure of firearms and ammunition which took place at the customs of Cap-Haïtien on April 5 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42067-haiti-flash-cap-haitien-seizure-of-weapons-and-ammunition-2-men-wanted.html , the General Directorate of the AGD decided to send a Commission composed of customs agents responsible for strengthening the control capacities of the Cap-Haïtien Customs and its employees.

On Monday, unidentified individuals, unhappy with this decision, made strong threats against Cap-Haitien customs employees as well as members of the Commission who had to take cover." These individuals subsequently proceeded to forcefully close the customs office and opened a hunt for the members of the Commission whom they are seeking, denounce the customs authorities...

All customs activities are at a standstill

According to testimonies, since the arrival of members of this Commission, customs control agents have been frequently threatened by unidentified individuals.
