Haiti - FLASH Cap-Haitien : At least 12 people dead in landslides

Following the torrential rains which fell on Cap-Haitien for several days at least 12 people lost their lives on the night of May 1st to 2nd, 2024

At least 11 victims lost their lives in Labori, a shantytown not far from Barrière Bouteille in a landslide which destroyed 3 houses. Rescue teams and residents continue through the mud and rubble to search for other victims... Another person died in Rival in another landslide.

The Municipality calls on residents to remain vigilant and follow the safety instructions issued by the Civil Protection authorities and recommends avoiding all unnecessary travel in areas at high risk of landslides.

The Municipal Commission is fully mobilized to assist those affected and coordinate relief efforts. She also continues to work in collaboration with the various emergency services and local organizations to overcome this tragedy.

The municipality of Cap-Haitien expresses its deep sadness and solidarity with the families of the victims and sends its thoughts and condolences to their loved ones during this difficult time.
