Haiti - Weather : Flood WARNING in 8 departments

The Haiti Hydrometeorological Unit has issued a flood warning for 8 departments which have already received a lot of rain since the beginning of the week.

Several weather phenomena have already caused rainy activity in Haiti. For today, it is the passage of a low pressure zone towards the east of Cuba which is causing rain and storms in the Caribbean region.

Since yesterday May 1st, 2024, due to the passage of this phenomenon, heavy rains have started to fall in several departments such as the West, the North, the North-East, the North-West, Nippes and Grand'Anse.

According to the latest weather report, rainy activity will continue until Friday May 3rd, 2024. This situation can cause unexpected flooding in many departments during the rains.

It is for this reason that the Hydrometeorological Unit has issued warnings of threat of flooding and landslides in the departments of Grand'Anse, Nippes, South, North, North-East, North-West, West and Center.

For the South department, the sea can be rough, which can make cabotage activities difficult in the region. Boat operators must be very careful at sea.

The Hydrometeorological Unit of the country of Haiti and the General Directorate of Civil Protection ask all people living in areas accustomed to flooding to remain vigilant. Always practice safety precautions.
