Haiti - Security : The CARICOM military contingent ready to intervene in Haiti

Friday April 26, 2024, approximately 70 members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), mainly belonging to the 1st Battalion of the Royal 22e Régiment in Valcartier (Quebec), completed Operation "Helios" in Jamaica which began on March 29, 2024 https:// https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42019-haiti-mmss-the-canadian-army-will-train-nearly-330-men-of-the-caribbean-joint-task-force.html .

This operation consisted of completing the training of 330 military personnel from the Bahamas, Belize and Jamaica, members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), in anticipation of their next deployment to Haiti as part of the Mutinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42149-haiti-canada-training-of-the-multinational-force-in-haiti-continues-in-jamaica.html led by Kenya .

The FAC Commander for Operation Hélios, Colonel Tarik Messousa declared "it is impressive to see what Canada can deliver in terms of expertise and training [...] I can say, on behalf of the forces that have took part in the operation and the Kenyan forces, that we achieved our goal."

The Chancellor of Jamaica, Kamina Johnson, also said she was satisfied with the Canadian mission : "We have completed training on operations and special forces, on infrastructure, hostage recovery, etc... This is the work that needs to be done here to ensure that we are ready to provide support whenever we are asked."

Jamaican Commander Kevron Henry said he was confident about the level of effectiveness of his troops, which he considered ready to intervene in Haiti "They are, I believe, capable of intervening and carrying out high-intensity operations" to restore order in places like Haiti or elsewhere in the world. According to our assessment, we are capable of confronting the challenges that may arise in any environment, including Port-au-Prince."
