Haiti - Culture : Daniel Supplice welcomes in Haiti, personalities from the diaspora

Daniel Supplice, the Minister to the Presidency in charge of Haitians living abroad, welcomed Tuesday to the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, several Haitian personalities from the diaspora : the actress Fabienne Colas, the writer Dany Laferriere, and Michaëlle Jean the Unesco Special Envoy for Haiti, invited by the Canadian Embassy in Haiti.

"When there is Haitians who make the happiness of Haiti abroad and who return home, we must be there to welcome them [...] The former tend wanted that we expected a lot of the Diaspora, but now we want serve them. This explains my presence here" declared the Minister Supplice.

Fabienne Colas, founder and organizer of the Quebec Film Festival in Haiti (FFQH) [sponsored by Western Union] which comes present during this event her film "Minuit" said a few words "...I am at home, I'm glad to be here. It was time for me that I come back. I am very proud to walk again on the soil of my native land..."

Michaëlle Jean who came to chair the International Colloquium "Heritage, cultural tourism and sustainable development in Haiti Challenges and perspectives for the future" which opens this Thursday at the Hotel Karibe in Port-au-Prince, said "We have an extraordinary heritage. The culture and the creativity are our strength. We need to take a momentum. We must make discover to the world the image of Haiti that we want to rebuild. It is not only the misery that they have to see, but all the wonders we have in our country [...]"

Dany Laferrière, winner of the Prix Médicis in 2009, will receive the homage of the Quebec Film Festival through a retrospective of films adapted from two of his novels: romans: "Vers le Sud" of Laurent Cantet, "Le Goût des jeunes filles" of John Lecuyer; he will also present "Comment Conquérir l'Amérique en une nuit" a film he wrote and directed himself "I am here with the feeling of being able to resume my forces. The whole world was at our side after the earthquake of January 2010. This link has been done under the sign of misfortune, we must do it under the sign of happiness. We must forge vital links, by doing things modestly. The culture provides the opportunity..."
